An anemometer is, at its most basic, an instrument that is designed to measure wind speed. Over the years as weather watching and meteorology has developed with technology, anemometers have advanced from old fashioned contraptions to the various anemometers types you can find today:
- hot wire anemometer
- davis wind anemometer
- ultrasonic anemometers
- aluminium cup anemometer
- wireless anemometers
The most portable are the handheld anemometers and they make it easy and affordable for the amateur weather watcher to track and predict wind speed as well as wind chill and temperatures.
